By transform I mean, "translation and rotation".

parent/child are treated like arms in one of those Pixar lamps. Except the arms also transmit rotation (to the whole sub-branch of transforms), and you can have all the arms you like.

Maybe just balls and silver rods to connect, with a visual cue to see rotation.
