To insist that

• Your child be a Christian for the entirety of your relationship

is equivalent to

• Insisting that your spouse, brother, friend really "understand" the level of abuse you suffered in your Christian household.

Both desires are self-serving. In both cases the degree or level of compliance or believability is always in question. Both are just a long treadmill of forced pledges of allegiance; sometimes there's compliance because the recipient of all the coercion probably just wants to get on with their day. There are no clear instructions and there is no goal. It's just: "Tell me you believe to make me feel better inside!" in both cases.
