It would be really cool to take this and some how use webgl code to run the stuff on the GPU.

I always thought it would be so cool to have a "platform" for experimenting with (um) cellular autonoma. Doing the above, you could have a <canvas> to your left (say) and a dashboard on the right for toying with the universe (rules etc). I still haven't found screenshot porn an "epoch" in ultra-high resolution. With color maybe. It probably exists, but the above would let you have that along with toys/tools for manipulating.
